Gibco Geltrex™ Flex – The Next Generation of Basement Membrane Matrix

Elevating Your Culture with the Geltrex™ Flex Platform

For over 15 years, Gibco Geltrex Basement Membrane Matrix (BMM) has provided the stable foundation required for advanced 2D and 3D cell culture. We are excited to introduce the evolution of this essential tool: the Gibco Geltrex™ Flex platform. Geltrex Flex maintains the same trusted, high-quality performance of the original Geltrex BMM while introducing superior flexibility, economic benefits, and scientific validation for your most sensitive applications.

Scientific Validation and Operational Advantages

Geltrex Flex is engineered to streamline your laboratory operations and enhance experimental consistency:

What is Geltrex Flex Matrix? Geltrex Flex matrix is a basement membrane extract that contains key extracellular matrix proteins, including laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and heparan sulfate proteoglycans. This proprietary formulation supports the growth of a variety of cells in 2D and 3D culture, including primary cells, human pluripotent stem cells, organoids, and tumoroids.

  • Flexible Sizing Reduces Costs, Variability, and Risk
The Geltrex Flex platform is now available in three convenient vial sizes: 1 mL, 5 mL, and the NEW 10 mL. This design allows you to purchase only the volume you need, reducing upfront costs and eliminating the operational necessity of manual aliquoting and multiple freeze-thaw cycles of surplus material. This operational refinement directly minimizes lot-to-lot variability and reduces potential contamination risks.
  • Dedicated Organoid-Qualified Formulation
A new, dedicated Organoid-Qualified matrix option is now available, specifically validated to facilitate stable 3D dome formation and organotypic structure assembly in vitro. This ensures reliable results for complex 3D disease modeling.
  • Rigorous Quality Testing and Functional Equivalence
Each lot of Geltrex Flex matrix undergoes rigorous quality testing to ensure consistent, reliable results, so your experiments have the best chance of success. Furthermore, rigorous comparative testing confirms that Geltrex Flex is functionally equivalent to the legacy Geltrex BMM, guaranteeing that established protocols (e.g., hPSC pluripotency maintenance, differentiation assays, and complex organoid growth) will continue without the need for extensive re-optimization.

Choose Your Foundation - The Three Geltrex Flex Formats

The Geltrex Flex portfolio is available in three targeted qualification levels to match your specific application needs:

General cell culture

Geltrex™ Flex LDEV-Free Reduced Growth Factor BMM
Designed as a supportive substrate for a wide variety of cells, including primary epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and hepatocytes.

Supports: Attachment, proliferation, invasion, and tube formation assays (angiogenesis). Equivalent performance confirmed in HUVEC and Hepatocyte cultures.

Stem cell culture

Geltrex Flex LDEV-Free hESC Qualified Reduced Growth Factor BMM
Rigorously tested for expansion and maintenance of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (hESCs/ hiPSCs).

Supports: Attachment, effective maintenance of pluripotency, and complex differentiation steps, including Neural Stem Cell induction.

Organoid cell culture

Geltrex Flex LDEV-Free Organoid-Qualified Reduced Growth Factor BMM
A novel, dedicated formulation specifically validated for complex 3D tissue modeling and organoid passage assays.

Supports: Organoid growth, differentiation, and stable 3D dome formation. The matrix supports the culture of mouse intestinal, liver ductal, and airway organoids, as well as human colorectal cancer organoids (tumoroids) in both stable 3D dome structures and suspension formats.

Important Transition Notification - Moving from Legacy Geltrex

Consistent with our commitment to offering the latest advancements in cell culture technology, we are managing a controlled transition from the original Geltrex BMM products to the enhanced Geltrex Flex platform.

Please Note: Inventory for the legacy Geltrex products (Geltrex LDEV-Free BMM) will not be restocked once current supplies are depleted.

We strongly encourage our customers currently using Geltrex to proactively transition to the equivalent Geltrex Flex replacement immediately. This ensures access to the new product enhancements and maintains continuity for your critical research programs.
