Biomek i-Series Liquid Handler workstation- Classroom Training

Introduction to Biomek and methods programming:

Biomek i-Series customer beginner training will provide a solid foundation for building methods and understanding the interactions and configurations between Biomek software and your automated liquid handler. Join your colleagues and experience this 3-day instructor-led course at Rhenium Learning Center. Your certified Biomek Instructor will guide you through this interactive learning experience that includes workbook driven and hands-on laboratory exercises with a Biomek® i-Series Instrument.
The training requires 3 days with up to 4 participants undergoing the training. Only trained personnel will be allowed to operate the Biomek liquid handler.
Pre-requisites:
• Participants should register to Beckman Coulter Learning Center
• Participants must complete the following online sessions:

Biomek Video – i-Series Introduction
This introductory course for Biomek i-Series is an e-module that will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. The participant will receive an overview of the hardware features on the Biomek i-Series automation platform, understand the key differences between Biomek 4 and Biomek 5, and learn the new features that have been introduced to support the Biomek i-Series. Biomek Video – i-Series Introduction
Biomek i-Series Customer E-Module – Biomek 5 Software Overview
The Biomek 5 software overview will provide you with an introduction to Biomek software. This course will cover a general introduction to the software, the basics to your instrument configuration settings, a general synopsis of project files and the various editors within a project file, and a brief overview of the Biomek method file. This software overview consists of five modules. These modules are recommended pre-work for
the Introduction to method programming for beginners in-person course.
Biomek 5 Software Overview – Introduction for Customer 

This e-learning module will introduce you to Biomek 5 software, which controls any of the new Biomek series instruments.
Biomek 5 Software Overview – Instrument Configuration for Customer 

This e-learning module will introduce you to the Hardware Setup, Deck Editor, and Device Editor within Biomek 5 software.
Biomek 5 Software Overview – Project Files for Customer 

This e-learning module will introduce you to the “Project” group within Biomek 5 software.
Biomek 5 Software Overview – Method Files for Customer 

This e-learning module will introduce the method file essentials within Biomek 5 software.
Biomek 5 Software Overview – Transfer and Quiz for Customer 

This e-learning module contains a short video tutorial on creating a new method and the “Transfer” step within Biomek 5
software.
Biomek i-Series Customer E-module – The Theory of Liquid Handling and Your Biomek
This e-learning module provides a background and history of liquid handling and how the Biomek instrument performs pipetting and liquid transfers. This on-line E-module will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete with section breaks and interactive knowledge checks throughout the course. It is a self-paced course and your progress is tracked for your convenience.
Theory of Liquid Handling – Biomek i-Series – Module 1 for Customer 

This is the first module to provide a background and history of liquid handling and how the Biomek instrument performs pipetting and liquid transfers
Theory of Liquid Handling – Biomek i-Series – Module 2 for Customer

This is the second module will describe how Biomek consumables factor into pipetting performance and the various ways your Biomek can perform liquid handling tasks.

Each training day will last 8 hours containing the following:

• Software overview and navigation

• Understanding Instrument and Project Files

• Instrument Start-up

• Instrument Set-up and Basic transfer

• Project Editors: Labware Type Editor, Tip Type Editor, Well Pattern Editor

• Pipetting Techniques

• Liquid Types

• Span 8 o Ribbon Tabs

• Multi-channel with Select tips function o Ribbon Tabs

• Serial Dilution – using both pods

• Wet lab

• Transfer from File – Span8

• Review and discussion- open questions

• Datasets

• Trouble-Shooting scenarios on Biomek Instrument o Manual Control o Framing o Vision System and Error Logging

• File Management

• Optional topics, if time permits
